Crisp, the online child protection specialist, has been named among the Top 100 best start-up companies in the UK as part of a prestigious new poll compiled by Startups.co.uk.
The Leeds-based company achieved 44th place in ‘Startups 100’, which lists the most exciting and innovative emerging small enterprises, which are predicted to be the big businesses of the future.
Companies were assessed on a range of criteria including originality of concept and strength of business model. The judging panel also looked at businesses’ turnover, evidence of future revenues, proposition to investors and quality of management.
Crisp, which was founded by entrepreneur Adam Hildreth, has quickly become the leading exponent of online child protection technology and recently acquired its US competitor, IMSafer to accelerate its international expansion.
Its technology has the ability to analyse the content of online conversations to indentify inappropriate relationships that are initiated by predators wanting to groom, and potentially abuse, children. It can also identify dangerous, inappropriate or threatening words, phrases and themes in children’s instant messaging (IM) conversations.
Adam Hildreth, Founder and President of Crisp, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Crisp and acknowledges the innovative approach we are taking in the field of online child protection.
“For a fledgling business we have made significant strides towards establishing a respected brand in the UK and the US. Achieving a top 50 position in this list of creative and successful young businesses is really satisfying.”
Matt Thomas, editor of Startups.co.uk, said: “Crisp is a fine example of what's so great about the UK's current start-up community. Adam's business has identified and solved a growing consumer concern with an innovative business model primed for global expansion
